What is Chicas Abroad?

Chicas Abroad is a women’s travel community offering small-group adventures around the world. Our trips are designed to be fun, safe, and empowering—whether you’re a seasoned traveler or it’s your very first big adventure.

Who can join a Chicas Abroad trip?

Our trips are designed for women of all ages (typically 21+, but there are some exceptions) and backgrounds who love adventure, culture,
and connection. Many of our travelers come solo, while others bring a friend, sister, daughter or mom. Either way, you’ll be welcomed into a supportive group of like-minded women.

Do I have to be super fit to join?

Each trip includes a detailed activity level guide so you know what to expect—whether it’s light walking tours, moderate hikes, or more active treks, such as the 96-mile West Highland Way. For most trips, if you’re comfortable walking on uneven ground and have a moderate level of fitness, you’ll be just fine.

What if I’m traveling solo?

Perfect! Most of our travelers come solo. You’ll instantly have a built-in group of travel buddies, and we make sure you feel comfortable from day one. Solo travelers often leave with lifelong friends.

How many women are usually in a group?

We keep our groups small—generally 6–12 women. This allows for authentic experiences, deeper connections, and flexibility while traveling.

Are trips safe?

Yes. Safety is a top priority. We partner with trusted local guides, stay in vetted accommodations, and our trip leaders are always there to support you. Plus, traveling as a group adds an extra layer of security and peace of mind.

What’s included in the trip price?

Each trip varies, but generally your package includes accommodations, most meals, guided activities, entrance fees, and ground transportation once the trip begins.

International airfare, travel insurance, and personal expenses are typically not included. A detailed “What’s Included” list is provided for each itinerary.

Will I have free time to explore?

Yes! While we offer a full itinerary of amazing activities, we always build in downtime so you can shop, relax, or explore at your own pace.

What kind of accommodations do you use?

We stay in comfortable, locally-owned hotels, boutique lodges, and unique properties that reflect the character of the destination. Rooms are typically shared with another traveler, but single supplements may be available if you prefer your own room.

What if I’ve never traveled internationally before?

No problem! Many of our travelers are first-time international travelers. We’ll guide you through everything from packing tips to airport arrival. Your trip leader and the group will be there to support you every step of the way.

What should I pack?

We provide a packing list for every trip so you know exactly what to bring (and what to leave at home). Essentials usually include comfortable walking shoes, layers for changing weather, and a sense of adventure!

Do I need travel insurance?

We highly recommend travel insurance for all Chicas Abroad trips. It protects you in case of unexpected events such as trip delays, medical emergencies, or lost luggage. We’ll provide guidance on choosing the right plan.

What’s the average age of women on the trips?

Our travelers range from their 20s to their 70s. Most groups include a wonderful mix of ages, which makes for diverse conversations and perspectives.

Can dietary restrictions be accommodated?

Yes. We do our best to accommodate food allergies and dietary needs—just let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.

How do I reserve my spot?

You can reserve your spot directly on our website with a deposit. The remaining balance is due closer to departure, and we offer interest-free monthly payment plans to make it easy.

Is the deposit refundable?

Deposits are non-refundable, but they are transferrable to another Chicas Abroad trip if you let us know 90+ days before your scheduled departure. This gives you flexibility if your plans change.

What happens if Chicas Abroad cancels a trip?

We reserve the right to cancel trips with inadequate participant attendance or for other unforeseen circumstances, in which case all money paid to Chicas Abroad will be fully refunded. Please note that Chicas Abroad cannot be held responsible for personal expenses such as airline tickets due to changes in itineraries or tour cancellations. Once you book a trip with us, we will notify you when the trip has met the minimum number of participants required. At that point, it’s safe to purchase your flights and make other travel arrangements.
