Highlights
Activity Level – Moderate
We will do a few short (approximately 2-3 miles) hikes which are rated as moderate. We suggest you prepare for these hikes by hitting some local hikes that have some elevation gain and/or hit the stair-stepper at the gym to get your lungs and legs in shape.
The biking on the Hiawatha Trail is relatively easy with a slight downhill grade for most of the 15 miles. The most important part of getting in shape for the biking is preparing your glutes for sitting on a bike seat for 2-3 hours! Spend some time prior to the trip on a bike to prepare for being on 2 wheels, especially if it’s been a while since you’ve ridden a bike!
The rafting adventure will be mostly an easy float, with some moments where you will need to paddle through some moderate level (Class II and III) rapids. Be sure your shoulders are in shape for the paddling!
Weather
The weather in Western Montana in July/August can range from the 70s-90s for highs and 40s-50s for lows. Be watching the weather to pack accordingly.
Money & Tipping
All the excursions listed in the itinerary are included. Bring cash/credit cards for purchasing souvenirs, additional snacks/meals, alcoholic drinks, extra activities, and other items. All gratuities are included with the exception of those for your Chicas Abroad tour leader. Tipping the Chicas Abroad tour leader is optional and not included in the price of your adventure.

Day 2-Biking & Hiking
Aug 1 – Hiawatha Trail Biking and Cascade Falls Hike
Wake up early, grab your coffee, and get ready for an adventure-filled day as we head to the western border of Montana, crossing into Idaho to the Lookout Pass ski area. This is where the magic happens—where we’ll gear up with mountain bikes and helmets and follow in the footsteps of history by riding the legendary Hiawatha Trail.
The Route of the Hiawatha was once the last intercontinental rail route connecting Chicago to the Pacific Northwest, cutting through rugged mountains and breathtaking landscapes. Today, it’s a 15-mile bike route that offers a one-of-a-kind experience—riding through historic railroad tunnels, some stretching over a mile long, where the air is cool and the adventure is palpable. The unique combination of stunning views and these dramatic tunnels makes this ride truly unforgettable.
After the bike ride, we’ll stop for a delicious lunch, and if we’re up for it, we may take a short hike to stretch our legs and soak in more of the natural beauty around us. By the time we return to our cabins, you’ll have earned a well-deserved dinner, followed by another blissful soak in the luxurious hot springs. Let the warm waters ease your muscles as you reflect on an exhilarating day spent surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Montana and Idaho.
This day is all about adventure, exploration, and luxury—a perfect blend that will leave you feeling energized, relaxed, and ready for tomorrow’s adventures!
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks
Accommodations: Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort
Activity: Biking 15 miles on a mostly slight downhill grade with lots of stops for pictures. Bike is rated as moderate. Hiking 2.9 miles with an elevation gain of 629 feet. Hike is rated as moderate.
Day 3 - River Rafting
Aug 2 – Rafting through the Alberton Gorge on the Clark Fork River
Rise and shine for an exhilarating day of adventure! After a delicious breakfast and your morning coffee, we’ll head back toward Missoula to kick off our river-rafting adventure through the iconic Alberton Gorge. This section of the Clark Fork River takes you through a stunning, steep-walled canyon that’s perfect for an epic rafting experience. On a hot August day, it’s the ultimate escape, with plenty of chances to cool off by taking a dip in the refreshing waters.
As we navigate the river, we’ll wind through lush forests, past dramatic rock formations, and catch glimpses of majestic bald eagles and osprey soaring above. The thrill of the rapids, combined with the beauty of the surroundings, will leave you speechless at every turn.
After our rafting adventure, we’ll enjoy a delicious picnic lunch along the river and, of course, more time to cool off in the crystal-clear waters. You’ll have time to relax, soak in the stunning natural beauty, and reflect on the incredible journey you’ve had.
If the group is feeling up to more adventure, we may squeeze in a short hike in the afternoon. The hike is very close to Quinn’s, so if you’d rather just soak in the hot springs, that’s fine too. It’s a choose your own adventure type of afternoon!
We’ll return to our luxurious cabins for one last evening of connection and relaxation. Share laughs, swap stories, and savor your final soak in the hot springs as you unwind and let the warmth soothe your muscles after an unforgettable day. This adventure may be coming to an end, but the memories and bonds formed along the way will stay with you long after you leave.
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks
Accommodations: Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort
Activity: 4-5 hours of river rafting that is rated as moderate (with some Class II and III rapids). Since it’s August, the water will not be running too strong, so we can enjoy a mostly leisurely paddle down the Clark Fork River with opportunities for swimming along the way.
Optional Activity: 2.7 mile hike near Quinn’s Hot Springs for anyone who wants to stretch their legs after our rafting adventure.

Day 4-Hike & Depart
Aug 3 – Hike to the M and Depart Missoula
Sadly, today is our last day, but we’re going to make every moment count! After a relaxed start and a delicious brunch, we’ll make our way back toward Missoula, where the adventure continues with a short but sweet hike to the famous “M” that overlooks the University of Montana. This 1.2-mile trail may be moderately challenging with its switchbacks, but don’t worry—this is all about enjoying the journey, not racing to the top. We’ll take our time, share laughs, and cheer each other on as we make our way to the summit for a stunning panoramic view of Missoula and the surrounding mountains.
The sense of accomplishment and the bonds we’ve built during this adventure will stay with you long after the hike is over. By the time we finish, we’ll wrap up our journey around 2:00pm, but the memories—and the friendships—will last a lifetime. This trip has been more than just breathtaking landscapes and heart-pumping activities; it’s been about the connections we’ve made with incredible women who shared in the spirit of adventure.
We’ll leave knowing we’ve experienced something special, and that the spirit of sisterhood and adventure will continue to inspire us long after we say goodbye.
We will return to the Missoula airport at 2:00pm for any flights. Flights should be made for after 3:00 pm.
Included Meals: Brunch
Activity: Moderate-level hike of 1.2 miles roundtrip with 620 ft elevation gain over 11 switchbacks. Although this is a short hike, the elevation gain is no joke! Hiker-booty gains for sure!
